Season 40 Jeopardy! contestants - where they're from

The main table includes all players who made their first appearance on Jeopardy! in 2023-24. Thus, they exclude:

• Lucas Partridge, the reigning regular play champion at the end of season 39
• The twenty-seven competitors in the Season 37 Second Chance Competition, all of whom appeared first in that season
• The 108 competitors in the Season 37/38 Champions Wildcard, all of whom appeared first one of those two seasons, or in the Jeopardy! National College Championship in 2022
• The 36 players in the Season 39 Second Chance Competition, all of whom were first on the show last season
• The 54 competitors in the Season 39 Champions Wildcard, ibid.
• The 27 players in the Tournament of Champions, all of whom appeared first in one of the previous three seasons, and many of whom re-appeared earlier in this one, or on Celebrity Jeopardy! in 2022-23
• The 27 players in the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament, who are the three non-finalists from last year's Jeopardy! Masters, or first appeared on the syndicated program in 2019-20 or earlier

Regular play for Season 40 has completed taping; the first such game aired on April 10.

Jeopardy! is continuing the practice, revived three seasons ago, of allowing contestants to be introduced as "originally from" a location other than their current residence, which had been ended in 2016; however, it is being used much more sparingly than in Season 37. Those introductions are not separated out in these statistics.
